A Review As Sega Revealed Thunder Force VI
Posted by John as Shmups
Thunder Force was the series that embodied shoot-em-ups in the line of Sega systems. Thunder Force has come a long way since its original release for Japanese PC gamers back in 1983. This Sega release became a big hit with the 1989’s Thunder Force II on the Genesis followed up by two more 16-bit sequels over the next few years. It has been roughly 10 to 11 years ago when Working Designs produced Thunder Force V for the Playstation.
Thunder Force finally made its return which doesn’t stray from the formula created in Thunder Force V. It’s you against the Orn Empire once again. Witness an explosion of colorful and vibrant 3d graphics, 2d side-scrolling solid gameplay, hip and rocking music and insane blow up of attacks. For series players of Thunder Force 6, Thunder Force time and tech, sound test and reports are at their disposal. Since its release this month, Thunder Force 6 gained mixed reactions. Some dislike the shorter length of each stage in the game retorting they find it annoying as the interruption kills their appreciation of the cool music. Thunder Force 6 reformulated how the overweapon is used, unlike its predecessor overweapon slows your ship to one quarter of speed and switching to other weapons isn’t permitted until you use one full bar. Thunder Force 6, yes, is flawed but it’s still a fun shump game with its unlockable two more ships and time attack modes.

Sega’s Possible Rework for PS 2
Posted by John as Shmups
I know most of you are wondering what classic shooter titles Sega will rework for Playstation 2. Thanks to shootthecore.blogspot.com for this update, Sega has announced that more classic shooter titles are underway to getting a rework for Playstation 2. The latest Edge magazine mentioned in their “Bullet Hell” article, the two titles we could add on the list of Sega remakes are Space Harrier 4D and Fantasy Zone. To read the complete article in this link, http://shootthecore.blogspot.com/2008/11/segas-next-stg-projects-possibly.html.
This rumor is remains a possibility depending on how well Thunder Force 6 rakes in final sales figures. Shoot the core blogspot talks about Thunder Force 6 and how this game should be named Thunder Force 5.5 instead in its review. If you’re a follower of Thunder Force, compare its latest version with its earlier version, Thunder Force 5.

Some of you might be thinking Space Harrier isn’t a shmup at all while Fantasy zone may not be nearly as exciting as Thunder Force. We’ll keep you posted on what Sega has as its final say.

A Sneak Preview: R-Type Dimensions Coming Soon to Xbox Live Arcade
Posted by John as 2d Shooter, Flash Shooter, Shmups
With R-Type Dimensions heading to the Xbox 360, it recreates the genre-defining coin-op popular classics R-Type and R-Type II with a twist all in one package. The classic game play is raised to greater heights with refreshing additions and newly-adapted enhancements.
R-Type Dimensions follows the footsteps of Galaga Legions yet making sure the classic game play remains untouched. One of the improvements worth checking out is its enhanced 3D graphics. For the first time and perhaps the biggest enhancement, R-Type Dimensions lets multiplayer co-op play locally or over Xbox LIVE up to two players. You can even choose to switch back and forth between HD eye-candy and a low resolution, old-school look at your will. It’s as good as having the best of both worlds. R-Type Dimensions will allow players to tap the right bumper on the Xbox 360 controller to fade you in and out or much better put, travel back in time and blast to the future.
Other noteworthy features of R-Type Xbox Live include:
Play
Single player and co-op play
Locally or via Xbox LIVE for up to two players
Get two full playable classic co-op games: R-Type and R-Type II in one game play.
Play the classic game mode that mimics the original co-op experiences.
3D Graphics
Sharper 3D graphics plus 2D original graphics. Get to swap between graphic modes while on the fly.
Bonus
Track all the player’s detailed vital statistics
Achievements are appropriate for every skill level ranging from easy to advanced.
Two free gamer pictures that can be unlocked by players of any skill levels.
For those of you (including me, of course) who can’t bear to wait any longer when R-Type Dimension release date will be announced, we really don’t have any other choice but to sit and wait for it. We will definitely post updates on R-Type Dimensions Xbox Live – stay tuned on the latest in retro arcade time traveling here on 2dshooter.com. In the meantime, here are interesting screenshots and video to make you more anxious about R-Type Dimensions Live as I am.
